ACK 121.5 ELTThe FAA is still allowing the use of 121.5 MHz Emergency Locator Transmitters for use in United States aircraft.  Although the recommendation is to switch to the new 406 MHz ELTs, there is no requirement.  The low cost of the 121.5 MHz ELT makes it very affordable for anyone.  Whether you need to replace an old ELT or just need a new one for your airplane, they can be purchased and installed relatively cheaply.  They are especially good for homebuilt aircraft where cost is a major consideration.  All the major manufacturers still make the 121.5 MHz emergency locator transmitters and they can be maintained very cheaply.
