For many people, there’s nothing scarier than getting on a plane and flying to any given destination. In fact, when people are asked about their biggest fears, the three answers that invariably come up are death, speaking in public, and flying. But some of the plane-related anxiety can be alleviated with the proper preparation and foresight. It’s why commercial flights are stocked with lifejackets and various safety gear, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t use the same logic.

To that end, make sure you always have an aircraft survival kit in your carryon. These can be filled with various items, but they almost always have items like band-aids, gauze, emergency ponchos, survival blankets, and more. These are perfect for during the flight in case somebody gets injured or needs medical attention, but they are also perfect if the plane needs to make an emergency or crash landing, and you have to wait until rescue teams can find you.
